About Clinica
Romero
Clinica Romero is a 501 (c) (3), non-profit
Community Health Center that provides quality affordable primary health and
dental care and other related services for every income level. Since 1983,
Clinica Msr. Oscar A. Romero has served a primarily low-income, uninsured and
underserved clientele. Serving the Greater Los Angeles community has meant
providing healthcare to a diverse population representing several languages
including the indigenous community. Annually, Clinica Romero provides over
45,000 health and health related visits to patients and clients who represent
142 zip codes.
History
Clinica Romero is named for
the late Archbishop of El Salvador, Monseñor Oscar A. Romero. He was a
defender of the poor who were unjustly treated and arbitrarily murdered for
speaking out against the government. He is credited with fueling El Salvadors
revolution after his assassination in 1980. Clinica Romero began as a program
of El Rescate, an organization created as a resource center for Central
Americans fleeing civil war in El Salvador. In the absence of access, Clinica
Romero provided much needed compassionate medical care to a population
mentally devastated by war. As the need for affordable health care and the
uninsured population grew, Clinica Romero responded by expanding its
services.
